The New Renaissance
Verify Get Out, Moonlight, and Judas and the Black Messiah and 2 more to unlock The Crown on Aluvo.
The films in this collection didn't emerge from nowhere — they were built on decades of Black filmmakers working against the grain of an industry that consistently underestimated the audience for these stories. What changed in the 2010s and 2020s wasn't the talent; it was the permission, and the box office proof that followed. Moonlight won Best Picture and changed what the Academy thought it was voting for. Get Out became a cultural event. The Woman King demonstrated, again, that action cinema with Black women at its center could open globally. These five films are a marker — proof that something genuinely shifted, and that the shift had aesthetic consequences worth revisiting.
